What do school counselors do?

School counselors meet and support all students’ social, emotional, academic, and college/career needs. They help maximize students’ potential for academic success, advocate for students, and collaborate with staff and parents to best support students at school.

The counseling office is a safe place for students to visit when they need to talk or when they need academic, social, or emotional support during the school day.

Meet the Counselor

Mrs. Goodpasture (She/Her)

Hello, Rancho Families!

I am thrilled to be joining the Rancho community as your school counselor! I have been working as a school counselor for more than 14 years, and I absolutely love working with elementary students. Every day brings something new, and that is one of my favorite things about this job!

As your school counselor, I support students in many different ways. This year, I will work with students individually and in small groups to help them develop the social-emotional skills they need to thrive at school and beyond. I am also excited to be creating a brand-new wellness space on campus called the Wellness Den, named in honor of our very own mascot! The Wellness Den will provide students with a welcoming space where they can learn strategies for managing emotions, solving problems, and taking a break when they need one.

I also facilitate small counseling groups for students who may benefit from additional time and practice developing specific skills alongside a small group of peers. When a student is invited to participate in a counseling group, I will always send home a permission form and keep families informed.

At times, I may also meet with students individually to provide additional support. I will communicate with parents or guardians and send home a permission form when individual counseling support is appropriate.

My goal is to help every student feel safe, supported, connected, and confident at school. I look forward to partnering with you and your family as we help your children build the skills they need to navigate friendships, emotions, challenges, and all the ups and downs of growing up.

Please don't hesitate to reach out if you ever have questions or would like to connect. I am so excited to get to know our Rancho students and families and to be part of this wonderful community!
